I was on the highway the other day accelarating up hill and when my truck up shifted I started to hear a sound almost like a dentist drill and it sounded like it was coming from the turbo area only for a few seconds though. This is the second time it happend. The first time was when I was towing my jeep. I took the intake boot off to see if there was any play and I found that it does have some play.

My question is, is my turbo on its wat out and if so should I go with a stock turbo again or try to find a upgrade? I have a 2000 F-350 auto with 6637, turbo back and a hypertec in it. I dont have gauges yet but looking into them now. I will be looking into getting a gooseneck within the next couple years so I will need some more power it is a dog towing up hills as it is now.

Sounds like turbo surge, get a wicked wheel or a ported compressor housing and it will help you out

I'll have to check it again for the how the play is. I looked up what turbo surge to exactly what it sounded like. That sound comes more from the driver side. I would get the surge while towing and accelerating quickly or up hill when it up shifts. But the sound I heard was different. It sounded like a dentist drill or even a dye grinder.

Surge is like a fluttering noise. Make sure your compressor wheel isn't touching the housing.

The compressor wheel spins freely and I don't think it was hitting the housing when I tried to move it. I never had this noise or the turbo surge until after I did the 6637 mod.
