Ok guys heres whats going on. I have a e99 f350 with the 7.3. I had a oil leak in the valley so I pulled and resealed everything while it was out. I had a loose non serviceable plug as well that was leaking so replaced it as well.

after letting the truck sit for over 24 hrs to make sure it was sealed and all thread sealer dry. I tried to start the truck. I could not build icp pressure unless I unplugged the icp itself. I am leaning towards a bad ipr. can anyone help me figure this one out. I plug the icp back in and no icp pressure showing up on my ae.

voltage was low cranking so hooked up a batt charger. the fuel bowl is full of fuel up to just below the top test port plug with filter out. (only removed filter to check fuel level). I thought maybe the ipr tin nut was too tight but nope.
I took it apart and resealed the ipr I did not replace it also I unscrewed it from housing however did not take the part that sticks off. leaning towards it also being bad since I had a sparatic idle rpm needle would jump on me before resealing hpop.

how do I check ipr on a ae on a e99. I only see the icp v duty cycle and psi. is it listed as something else on the drop down menu's. this is my daily driver and I need it for work and I deploy here in a few days and need it running right for the wife if she needs it as a 2nd vehicle while I am gone. pm me on here if you want my cell number to tell me over the phone. thanks matt

For anyone wondering if the check ball was left out no it wasn't. I put it in then put the edge filter in. and I verified after I screwed the new non serviceable plug in that it was still centered in place. so I tightened it down to spec. the little check ball was a tan color. I really think its a ipr issue personally.

also is there any difference in the hpop line disconnect fitting springs. I might have mixed up the 2 springs on the bench but I put them both back in with the metal shim facing down ward on both fittings. also in case I didn't mention 2 the hpop resovoir was full and its pumping oil. I know because I cheked the level and forgot to put the plug on stupid me and shot about 2 quarts on the floor. and yes I topped the engine back off just not sure y it wont fire.

If you assembled the hpop right and it was running good when you pull it apart to reseal it. I would check my engine harness and connections. Oil tracks down the harness and makes the wires britle. Moving the harness around could have broke or shorted a wire. I had this happen to my 2000 when i replace the engine. Sensors dont go bad sitting on the bench overnight.

very true they don't. however I had to take it apart to reseal it. its possible that I messed it up putting it back together. I unscrewed it from the main housing to reseal it. I could not separate the part that normally stick to the shaft. to get into the plunger deal. so im wondering if I messed it up by disassembling it. there was a video on your tube of a guy cleaning it so I tried to get to that point as well. if I cant figure this out soon its coming out and going to terminator for a overhaul. im thinking I will buy a new ipr tomorrow from the stealership.

Did you fill the HPOP reservoir after putting it all back together?? How about the oil rails??

How long have you tried cranking it? With the ICP sensor unplugged you will not even be able to read ICP pressure. So the "reading" you got would have been the default message the computer puts out when the ICP is unhooked or bad. Was it in the 700 to 728 PSI range?

If you have not done it the first thing I would is make sure you have oil in the HPOP reservoir and in the Oil rails.

don't know if this matters but I was getting codes p1212 and 1280. not sure if this has to do with the air in system or a bad ipr. think theses popped when I disconnected the icp to try and get truck to fire.

I am positive I have the spring loaded clamp on it so I know which one goes where. I have had the connectors off before. plus its the short wire run off my pig tail/ split in harness wiring so its correct.

update just went back out to truck I removed the ipr solenoid to check for resistance had 9.8 ohms I believe hard to read at night I could make out the 9.8. put it back on installed it nice and tight. and still had no icp pressure. I hit the ipr a few times and tried to start the truck again and saw a pressure spike for a few seconds on cranking to 2200 psi. so I am assuming the valve inside it is stuck. I will post more details when I can do further testing.
thanks for the help and please feel free to chime in.

update just bought a new ipr from ford 230.00 later and same issues. I find it hard to believe I messed anything up in the pump. I followed all diesel-0rings web site pdf instructions. and truck was a runner before hpop removal and fuel bowl.

I verified fuel pressure to the bowl today by draining the fuel bowl into a bottle and leaving drain knob open and having my wife turn key to run (not cranking and steady fuel is coming out.

Local diesel/ trans shop in town says it took him a full day to get his truck running after a new hpop install as well. is it possible I just have to keep cranking and cranking for hrs to get this thing to start again? I am doing 30 sec intervals of cranking and waiting 3-5 mins after before cranking for another 30 sec. at this point im starting to get frustrated and thinking I should tear the pump off again and open it up again to relook at everything. or even send it into terminator for a upgrade to a t500. any more ideas? please advise.

Don't worry about your starter, crank away. You have alot of air in your high pressure oil system, it's gonna take a good bit of cranking to get going again

The longest i've had to crank after doing a hpop or injectors is probably 10 sets of 10 seconds. But i guess its possible.

And i wouldnt do extended cranking periods. Depending how good of shape your starter is in, you can burn one up pretty quick.

I'm yet to burn one up, out of the hundreds of powerstrokes I've worked on... you just have to use common sense

Yes but you have to remember when your on a forum, that your common sense is not someone else's common sense. and you can most deffinitely burn up a starter cranking away.

The longest I had to crank after changing HPOP and injectors was like 6 to 10 seconds ONE time!! No repeating it over and over again.

If you HPOP reservoir is full and your oil rails are full all it needs to do is build pressure.

To the OP have you pulled a plug in the oil rail to see if its full? By the comment you made about it pumping fuel with just the key on it most be a SD or you did E-fuel.
When you put the springs and oil anti-bleed check valves in you put the flat metal plate down. At least that is what I read right?? That would be correct. Did you by chance not get the spring lined up right with the fitting, So it compressed the spring all the way and in essence smashed it tight and wedged the anti-bleed back vale tight?? Or smashed it tight enough it cant move enough oil to the oil rails, And that is keeping it from building pressure.
I would check those along with make sure the oil rails are full.

In-fact you could remove the check valves all together for testing. That will not hurt a thing. Some guys recomend it for really high oil demanding applications.

Sorry for not getting back to you by PM or phone. I have anew one now so If you still want I can call you.

update forgot to post what I did to fix the truck. After taking the hpop back out of the truck to double check my work. which was done 100% by the book aka instructions on dieselorings site. I verified everythin was put back in right etc. then installed back in truck again with no luck. so I gave in and bought the first pump I could find in stock that was local. 673 dollars later and a dieselsites adrenaline pump im back on the road. installed it and after maybe 3-6 seconds of cranking the truck was back to life.

I emailed joey at terminator engineering and he asked If I removed the 15/16 black plug and I said yes. so I am assuming that had something to do with it. I resealed everything on the hpop and even replaced the non serviceable plug with the new longer one. I have not noticed any differences in performance yet hopefully when I get my chip back from php I can notice the better pump. I really wanted to install a t500 since I heard nothing but great things about them. however I had time restrictions I was deploying in 3 days. so I had to fix the truck and not leave another project for the wife to stress out about at home.

so thank you for all the people that replied to this post. I knew it had to be something with the pump but was not sure what it was. and I still don't. I guess its time to send it into joey to let him t500 it for me. so I will be pulling out a perfectly good hpop and selling the adrenaline. anyone have a idea on what a low mileage one is worth. wont have anymore then 1,000 miles. I put 200 on it before I left and my wife will onlky drive the truck to the grocery store or around town once a week while I am gone to make sure the truck is not just sitting. thanks again
