Well, where do I begin? This has been an ongoing problem

Truck would crank and crank and would not start. With GPR unhooked, a shot of ether MIGHT start it. It started for me after the fuel system was installed.. Drove it to town filled it up and parked it on an 85* day, an hour later, no start.

-Electric fuel system (has pressure)
-New IPR, ICP,, CPS, fuel bowl harness, and have new UVCH'S and VCG's to install tomorrow.
-Don't know my compression numbers.
-All injectors buzz for a buzz test.
-High pressure oil reservoir is filled
-Around 180k on engine I believe.
-Injectors (250/30's) are going to get rebuilt but I was hoping to limp for a few months first, have around 100k on them.
-During the buzz test I get P1298 IDM failure, but I had that code even when the truck ran great.
-Right now if I give it a shot of ether it won't even start, it just cranks faster
-Not sure its related but with AE, when I try to pull codes the program loses communication and forces me to disconnect and reconnect to the truck...can't pull codes besides when I ran the buzz test
-Doesn't smoke almost at all when cranking.

So what are everyone's thoughts? I'm tired of throwing parts at it thinking that its the solution, seems endless! Wish I'd spent all the money I've spent on parts and mods, on a 5.9 swap.

Switch out the PCM and the IDM with known good units. Do them one at a time in order to determine which one is the culprit.

Thanks, planning on trying that tonight with my dad's 96. Going to try the IDM first.
Might even try mine in his truck, in case my harness has a short

Correct, just acts like the injectors aren't being commanded to fire, but AE shows that the computer is commanding a fuel pulse width

Ill bring 2,000 and a gooseneck tonight!

And that's for the dual HPOP and GQSSB? What's the gooseneck for?

Is not the IDM, my IDM started and ran fine in another truck. Didn't put the other IDM in my truck in case something in my harness is killing them. I have another harness but its not in great shape either, mine looks better.

Haven't swapped PCM's yet.

Decent shot of ether and it cranked 500 RPMs and did not fire.

PCM is good. Will replace UVCH, VCG, injector orings next. Then maybe engine harness.

Then it gets lit on fire

Do you have a mechanical guage you can put on the oil rail? That way you can get an accurate reading of icp while cranking, AE doesn't always tell the truth when it comes to that....

I don't yet. I was thinking about ordering one very soon.

Would installing my Gen 3 ensure enough oil while cranking?

Gonna try to get injector O-rings done tonight if possible to ensure that that has nothing to do with it

7/8 of the injectors are out and the o rings look pretty good. Some nozzles have soot on them, doesn't surprise me though as smokey as the truck had got

Anybody else?

Going to reinstall injectors and do a compression test. If it passes, which I'd hope it does, I'll probably send my injectors out. Otherwise,..

Is it an auto or standard? Mine did similar but the new o rings not ford, failed miserably. It was letting the HP oil bleed by and didn't have enough pressure to actuate the injectors even with the icp unplugged. Wasn't seeing 500 psi cranking. Ether would spin it to where it would fire.

Check to make sure there is no oil in your fuel filters. That's how I ended up finding mine. The scanner I had access to had at Ford had a read error. Just stumbled on it.

Its an auto..

I don't know what orings are on the injectors now but they were fine for the first 2.5 years that I have had it?

And the fuel is clean...

Compression test.. I've done 2 rounds so far, going to let the starter cool and will repeat soon. Truck is on a battery charger set to 15A charge. Will do this next round on 125A start
Edit: 5 strokes
1: 190, 185
2: 280, 275
3: 300, 290
4: 200, 225
5: 305, 280
6: 400, 350
7: 280, 260
8: 360, 310

That is according to this
The drivers side is from front to back #2, #4, #6 , #8
The passenger side if front to back #1, #3, #5, #7

I can only hand tight the fitting in the glow plug port. And I did just have my injectors out and I reinstalled them without a torque wrench cause I couldn't get ahold of my buddy to borrow one.

I don't think the injectors freshly seated is causing leak though, as they are brand new orings and I equally hand torqued them all, and one cylinder got to 400

I don't expect any change when I repeat the test and I think i'm doing a decent enough job to consider these results valid. I've always thought I had too much blowby but some guys just told me that it was standard for a 7.3
