The truck sputtered and died while my wife was driving down the highway. It showed no RPMs while cranking so i grabbed a CPS and headed out. Swapped CPS and no luck. I hooked the scanner up to it and got a communication error, checked all fuses and they are good, checked main engine harness connection to see if it had somehow came loose and its good. At this point im thinking that the chip had came loose and fried PCM, chip was good and secure but swapped PCM anyway and still nothing. it has to WTS light and tach does not move while cranking. Is there a chance that maybe the spare PCM could be bad too or am i missing something else simple?

The truck sold while i was waiting on a PCM. The guy is wanting to pick it up and drive it home some tiem this week so im kinda getting into a pinch here. BTW just for those wondering, the buyer is aware of the no start problem.

I don't think it's cps, no wait to start light and no comm with scanner. If nothing else I will pull a PCM out of my buddies 5 speed and try it just to rule out the pcm

Recheck the fuses and use a meeter the main one to check is the #22 under the hood. If it is blown you need to unplug the fuel heater on the filter housing

I checked it just to be sure but it is good and also there is no fuel bowl or heater since i have the bdp fuel system! I think im going to track down my buddy in the morning and swap his 5 speed pcm in just to see if i can get it to start, if not i'll look towards the wiring harness. any one else got ideas?

sounds like your on the right track, we also have plenty of spare PCMs and sensors available to you if you need something to get you going.

Well either I've got a 3rd bad PCM or there's something else going on. Does anyone have a harness diagram or better yet a pin out of the PCM plug? I want to test for power at the PCM.

Here is a PDF of the pins and a list of what they are. The pin posistion for the power in is 71 and it is a red wire.

I am a dumbass, some how I missed fuse #9 when I checked the fuses the first 4 times lol. Going to pick a fuse up and see if that fixes it.

Fuse pops as soon as you key it on with or with out a PCM. I pulled the fuse box loose and inspected wires that aren't protected in loom and did not see any chafing on them. Any common places to check for shorts?

If you check the link that I listed for the Power Distribution box you will see that that fuse also controls the:

Powertrain Control Module (PCM), PCM Power Relay, Electronic Transmission Control, Injector Pressure Regulator, Injector Driver Module

So take you pick on where to start.

Here are a couple more PDF files for you. One is for the IDM and the other is the E4OD connector.

This ****ing thing is going to drive me nuts. Narrowed it down to the IDM, swapped it out fired right up. So I buttoned everything back up and now it won't fire up. Tach works, passes buzz test, pulled chip out and no codes. Wtf, it fired right up 10 min ago! The only thing that sticks out is that while looking at data on scanner while cranking, the Icp didn't appear to be coming up like it should. I am going to let batteries charge for a bit and put a mechanicl Icp gauge on and see what exactly is going on with the Icp. I am stumped on how it could fire right up and then not do a ****ing thing after I put inner fender back in.
