^^^^^^ and can it be set to each gear... like 3500 1st 3600 2nd 3800 3rd and so on?

Can the light itself be modded? An exterior light used?

Let me rephrase. Can a Shift light be programed to go off using the tach on OBS trucks. Something like a shift light on a after market tach.

OK, now I understand but I sure do not know how to make that happen.

I've seen separate shift specific programmable shift lights on summit I believe it was? If that's what your looking for. Just the light. It used different fuses for each shift I want to say

Yah... thats actually what I have in mind, I just don't know how to hook it into the PCM. Didn't know if anyone had tried this.

I'd like to have a light for each gear change. Short shift 1-2 then space them out according to ET and Ft points along the track.

In a 5 speed or auto? Auto doesn't make sense unless your manually shifting it, 5 speed the PCM has no idea what gear your in ever. You would have to make a microprocessor to run the shift light that gets a signal for RPM and VSS then write a program for it to do everything you want

A shift light that comes on at one set RPM is no problem though

And have the shift light command the PCM when to shift? I don't see how that could be made to work. There isn't any provision for that sort of thing that I know of.
Now if you were to use a PCS controller, that you could program yourself to shift pretty much however you wanted it to.

Let me reset:

1st, ZF5.

A tach signal goes through the PCM .... right?
If so it must have some sort of parameter, otherwise there'd be no reason for it's need to be read. It might just be a signal to send to the IDM or an internal rpm limter but if it can be read can a signal be sent out in the form of low voltage to a light?

If it can, and can be narrowed to a window say 100 rpms wide and can it also see what gear I'm in.

Now do you see where I'm going?
