Hey guys i purchased the truck last month for a good deal, but it has a skip or miss i guess you could call it. I bought it this way and have just started to try and figure out the issue.

Today i got under the hood and i found that one of the plug connector that goes into the forward reciever on the passenger side valve cover, was broken. So i bought the repair kit for $20 and put a new plug on it. I was kind of hoping that would fix it and be a simple fix. But, as we all know thats never the case.

I took a video so you guys can see what its doing, and give me some input. I have no Check engine light, at least im pretty sure i dont. I was planning on pulling the valve covers and replacing the UVCH's. But on this truck apparently i need two per side, and they are $65+ a piece. I want to make sure that is a wise idea before i tear into it.

Let me know what you all think

buzz the injectors , no reason to pull the valve covers ,if they don't buzz the valve cover harnesses are bad ....if they do buzz then you need some injectors you are definitely down a hole , or two.

a good quality scan tool can run a test called a "buzz" test this will fire all the injectors solenoids, then one at a time you can hear them fire, if one sounds really really weak then that is your culprit. you need someone with auto enginuity, a ford scan tool, and tool truck scanner, or scan gauge to do it for you...if all thats in check then you start looking internally. (in the injectors)

It sure would help. If not pull the valve covers and you can unplug injectors one by one to line out which ones are not firing but that is more difficult. I do not suggest the Dorman harness and gasket parts.

Also look at the pins going into the plugs on the one you replaced. I did one of mine and the pins didn't lock right and pulled out. Was only running on 6. Run a contribution test as well. How we found mine. Looking at the plug you couldn't tell till a slight tug on the on the wires.

Hey guys i figure i should update this thread. I found a ex ford tech with all the computer programs through a buddy of mine. He charged me a reasonable fee and he came right down to my garage and ran all of the tests on the truck. He did the buzz test and found a bad injector. he also ran a compression test and everything came up good. I replaced the number three injector myself with one from Ford, and so far so good. She runs beautiful. Thanks for all the help.

Just figured i'd add that i was pleasantly surprised at how simple it was to do the injector.

sad thing is if the buzz came up bad on one injector.... you didn't have to replace the injector just the solenoid... could have saved some coin if you hit us up first.... but congrats on getting it fixed.

Well i took the valve cover off and ran it with no valve cover for a minute, and the number three injector was not returning any oil out of that top oil return thing. Sorry don't know the technical classification.

That well could have been just the solenoid. If you are more curious you could for a start ohm the solenoid.
