Hey Guys,

Did a search and not much came up.....Vibration when driving and it's the rear universal so replacing with Spicer 5-178X which is a 1350 with a Zerk so I can put grease to it.

So the last Universal is the exact same dimensions as above, but was loose with end to end play, meaning cap to cap distance was too great and these are the caps that are strapped to the yoke. So now when I place the new 5-178X into the saddles on the yoke there is like a mm of play, wondering if there is a way to tighten that up, thinking the straps will tighten down and hold the caps but was wondering if this slight play caused the other universal to fail sooner than it should. Guessing a new rear yoke might be more snug?

Any one swapped their OBS rear driveshafts over to the SD version, as I think they are more robust as it seems to me there are no flimsy straps on the yokes right? Or could a guy just replace the rear yoke with an SD one and use ODS shaft?

A rear drive shaft is easy, you need to swap pinion yokes, and get the flanges for both sides and bolt it on.. I see u have a 97, you will not be able to swap to a front SD driveshaft due to no one sells a flat flange for the front of a 4407-tcase. If you for what ever reason have a 1356-tcase u can get flat flanges for both sides and you can find SD drive shafts front and rear with an adaptor universal up front on the axle.

Not true there is a company who makes a conversion yoke for the 4407 so you can run a Sd front shaft. I will be getting one when I have extra money. Ill post the link up tomorrow.

What are the advantages?

I assume your asking about the front shaft? I still have a stock 250 shaft so I can't run 4 hi at the track due to excessive vibration. If I were to go with a obs 350 drive shaft I would still have to get a Cv Yoke and it has 1330 U joints. The Sd shaft has 1350 U joints so that's a plus in my book... I picked one up for 50$ from the junk yard.

I'm VERY interested in this 4407 front flange. I'd like to get a SD driveshaft so I can get rid of all my conversion joints after my SD axle swap
