I am looking into what it takes to change the oil cooler on my 6.4, i came into some news from a ford tech that it is being recommended to change the oil cooler when an egr cooler goes bad. Its an early flow restriction indicator. My question is what all has to come off to change the oil cooler. Would I be farther ahead to go ahead and install the head studs i was planning on installing?

They were saying something along the lines, If the coolers leak there is a good chance that the oil cooler may be plugged. I think they are going off of build up findings in the egr coolers. I can ask the guy to tell me a lil more.

EGR coolers on most ITEC engines leak due to loss of the cooling system's ability to maintain coolant levels in the cooler. Example: restricted oil cooler on a 6.0, leaking rad on a 6.4.

Almost every 6.4 I've seen with a rad that has leaked and been run for a while or that has been run low eats the cooler.

We use 530's and 466's at work and if one runs low on coolant you can pretty much assume its gonna need coolers. And it happens FAST on them.
