So I think I tracked down my oil leak.
Untitled.jpg

That square plug under the hpop has oil built up around it when the truck is running or right after I shut it off. It then runs down into the valley.

Is it possible to leak out of that plug? What is that plug there for? Is there somewhere else under the hpop it could be squirting out and landing there when the truck is at high rpm?

we see those plugs leak quite often. there is an oring around it. could also be the high pressure pump gasket itself. but most likely the plug if you can see oil running from it

Under that plug is a spring a ball. On the engine oil pump outlet there is a passage that goes right up to the hydraulic pump reservoir. When cranked oil is sent directly up there to get things going. Once oil pressure comes in from lifter rail it closes that port off. Basically when pressure equalizes on both sides of check valve.
If you ever have a reservoir draining issue that would usually be your culprit. It can get built up with gum over time and not seat right.

Thats the problem I cant see where its coming from at all, I just know thats where it pools up at.

I wonder if I have a draining issue? It is a b!tch to start if it sits for awhile.

I am going to go start it up and see what I can figure out.

I cleaned that plug up and got as much gunk off of it as I could and fired the truck up. I could see oil seeping up out of the gap as soon as I climbed back up on top of the engine.

So thats where its coming from for sure. So how do I fix it and what part do I need?
