My dads work truck is now throwing a oil light when at idle. When he drives it goes off. His truck is burning about about a quart of oil every 5 thousand miles

Has he check oil pressure with a gauge?
Any smoking from tail pipe?

Is this the same truck that went ungodly amounts of miles on oil changes?

I did some digging, so yes it is.
I would bet there is some internal damage done due to the length of the oil change interval. Rings, seals, something.

yea he learnt his little lesson. Hes now changing it every 5,000 miles everytime hes not on the gas the light comes on as soon as he puts the fuel to it the light goes out. He just changed the oil. Oil is where it needs to be
