I started this because there are no options. Well, besides.oem or aftermarket. I was warned to never use a $100 parts store special. I want something in stainless or aluminum that wont.corrode. Does anybody know of anything?

I might just have to get a ford pan and paint the hell out of it. Or powdercoat.

It.just seems stupid to put a corrosive metal back in as this one rusted up.

We just came across an aftermarket pan. It would not clear the pick-up tube and if you didnt pay attention there would be a greater gap than expected. IF the guy didnt pull the drain plug while engine was on stand, he would have never known the issue. After removing it we found all 4 corners were paper thin with RTV...

Thats what the warning about them contained and the flanges were humped from front.to.back. For a repair that requires the engine OUT(to do correctly) its.not worth the $100-150.bucks am aftermarket pan saves. I wish you could get an aluminum unit.from somebody. I had a fab.shop offer to do it but Im not ready to spend 700+ on a custom pan.

there is no need IMO... my truck came from rockford and lived its whole life there... pan is solid.... And honestly I have never really seen a rotted out pan on a 7.3 or 6.0 unless it was a plow truck or a mill truck....

My truck only had one leaky valvecover until 220k. In fact at 236k I noted that I had a slight drip.from the atf cooler. In other words, no leaks. Now it slobbers oil.

I'd go with an oem 1 an either linex it or do a few coats of por-15 an call it good. The last 2 I've replaced I used por-15 because I had extra laying around. I did 3-4 coats an then top coated it with a semi gloss spray paint an both still look the same as when they were put on.

I like the idea of a high quality powder coating job. That would certainly be my first attempt, and have less hindrance on pan bolt holes and oil level adapter surfaces.

Any chance coating the pan with a heavy liner like a bed liner or frame coating would cause any significant rise in oil temp, or would it act more as a heat absorber & "dissipater"? Just wondering . . .

I've heard people question the heat problem with linex before, but there's plenty of people running them that way without any problems, I wouldn't worry about it. I went with por-15 cuz I had it laying around, and I'm not real big on the texture finish. I'm sure powder coat would be the best route though

Yeah... mine had never been plowed with before I got it.... but lived it's whole life in New England.... oil pan is/was cancerous as hell.

I cleaned up as much as I could, but you can't get under the crossmember with any tools....so I just borrowed time. I have a new pan, engine stand, and cherry picker in the garage awaiting that day that she lets go.
