oil pressure

My oil pressure on cold start up is around 60 psi with a mechanical gauge Im reading from the plug next to the oil filter. Once the truck warms up pressure will drop to around 5 psi and dummy gauge on dash goes to zero. Pressure on mechanical gauge never goes below 5 psi. I have to increase engine rpms by around 100 or 2 for oil gauge on dash to start reading pressure. This does not seem normal to me. Is there way to determine if I have a weak pump and or if pick up tube is leaking. Driving down the road pressures are fine just at idle pressure drops...

I have a new mellling lpop .

The reason the dummy gauge goes to zero is because it needs 7psi to read.

You could try swapping LPOPs and see if anything changes.

Was your oil cooler rebuilt or new with the new motor ? There is a bypass/check valve system in there and if it fails it just dumps oil back to the pan IIRC.

Oil cooler was rebuilt. Was going to pull cooler and check the regulator/relief valve on cooler. Was told sometimes they will stick. It has a brand new lpop in it when engine was built.

Id start with the easy stuff first. Verify the gauge. (seems like you kinda have)

LPOP, pull the cooler and then if you have to the pan :(

Yeah have a mechanical gauge in 1/8 plug at the rear oil cooler housing next to the filter. Reads 5psi once engine is up to temperature. Going to pull oil cooler next and check that relief valve. Had the engine apart twice over the last 6 months. So hoping it's is just that.

I know how you feel. Mine is also in the filter housing. Warm idle is 14-16psi.

Funny tho. I have one in HPOP res as well. It reads 9-10psi.

My obs reads 25 psi at idle granted its basically stock reading in the same place.
