I'm hoping to be starting on a project in the winter after i graduate school and I'm trying to figure out what truck/motor would be the best, I've seen a lot of XL 6.4's and 6.0's for cheap, but I've also seen a lot of decent looking 7.3s for good prices to, the reason i say cheap is because i want to go thru and build the whole motor from the ground up, any suggestions?

1 for 6.0 and 1 for 6.4, not helping ha, i love 6.4's but it seems everybody has a monster 6.4, i don't see as many built 6.0's either, and i have noticed parts are getting cheap because I've been doing small research for a few months now

6.0! check lumber yards and stuff like that. i bought a cab and chassis truck a couple months ago for 3000, drove it home, and flipped it 2 weeks later for 4500 and didnt fix a thing.

How many 800-1000 hp 6.0s are there? The parts may be getting cheaper, but its still not an easy task compared to a 6.4.

Like Dustin and Elmo had with a procharger? Or like Carl is doing on Dodges? What do you plan to do with the truck?

I've seen a few videos here and there of elmos empire diesel 6.0 but i don't know much about it, but i honestly don't know what i would do, i want to build a badass truck that leaves everybody speechless but after that i don't know what i would do to be completely honest, i guess it would depend on how fast it was and how much power it makes

Hmmm I'd figure out what exactly you want to do with it and where you want to be power wise first. Otherwise you are just going to be throwing money and parts to get to a goal you don't even know. If a 6.4 is in your budget though, thats what I'd start with.

My goal is 700hp, and the main part of the project is to build a motor, just for the experience and to say I've done it, second is to make 700+hp just because you can't tear a motor apart and not build it better, and i want to be featured in Diesel Power mag

Start with an old tuck. Personally I would love to do something with an old 195? Suburban Carryall. Old body sitting on top of a modern frame and driveline.

your not going to build a 6.0l and leave anyone speachless... sorry to burst your bubble but 6.4s are doing 1k on fuel only.. thats impressive, a 6.0 is not so impressive anymore. id vote for a 6.4, common rail is king... or build a mech injected 7.3

This.

If you really want to get yourself noticed, build a compounded and mech injected 7.3. Take that engine and drop it into a clean 70's Ford like HRT is building. Go out there, put down fuel only numbers well above 1k, drive it around, run it at the strip and hook it at the track, kill everything on the street, and you will prolly get featured in every magazine you can think of.

That is if you have a big budget...

As much as i want to do something cool like that, i don't have a big budget, but everybody is doing up 6.4's, why not make a kick ass 6.0? And if i can make a reliable, powerful 6.0, then i move on to a 6.4 or a 6.7 and go for a grand, or do a swap into an older style truck and shoot for a grand
