I was told that when you put gauges on the A-pillar you need to leave the stock pillar in place and run the gauge pillar over the stock pillar.
is this true or does it not matter?

Yes, the pod will go over the pillar. On mine we cut the center out of the stock pillar as there are a ****load of wires to run for these Autometers.

I took mine off, 2 screws on top the one on bottom and one in the middle. I wired each gauge individually so there is A LOT of wiring back there. When I get around to it I am going to rewire it.

alright. I bought my truck with the gauge pod already in it and the stock one was gone but a buddy of mine has his stock pillar still on with the gauge pillar over it. I upgraded to a 4 gauge pillar (instead of 2) and it kinda hangs off toward the door and doesn't look the neatest cuz you can see the wiring when you get in the truck, or maybe it's just me being picky. i was gonna buy a stock pillar but i figured before i spend the money i'd see what other guys are doing.

No I cut my stock pillar and worked it together. There is a very small gap in between the windshield and pillar but still looks good. When I rewire the gauges I am going to build up the pod with fiber glass and make it one piece and widen the pillar to fill the gap to the windshield.

i left my factory trim piece under the gauge pillar but i had to cut part of the bottom out to pass the wires into the dash.

So without a factory pillar, is there just a big gap above the door where there isn't a trim piece?

not above the door, i have the trim still up there, the gap is on the pillar where the wires run. you can't tell through the windshield, only when you open the door.
