Alright well today went out to start the truck and batteries were dead. They are brand new. Well I started driving back down to school because I had class. After I drove a mile my speedo quit working and OD light was flashing.

Well I then new it was a VSS malfunction. So tonight after classes I checked codes and sure enough it was. So I went out to start the truck and my abs light came on after starting. So I drove over to a parkinglot, switched the VSS and cleared the codes. I then drove the truck up to 70 and the speedo worked perfect, better than normally actually. The problem is I am still getting the P0500 code, the ABS light is still on, and the OD is still flashing. It is shifting great.

I think the reason my batteries are dead is because i noticed today after I got down to school, If i have my heat or air on and shut the truck off it will not shut off with key out of the ignition. Even when the door is opened, and you can turn the heat and air on with the keys out of the ignition and the door opened or closed. The heat or air is the only thing that works with the keys out of the ignition, windows, radio etc stay shut off.

Both of those problems happened today, I have had an AE on my truck before and i got soft codes for the VSS, so that's why I had the extra VSS in case the speedo or any of these problems did occur.

Other electrical problems that have been going on is that when you turn the wipers on they will not shut off unless you push the fluid button to clean windows. Also the turn signals work, but after you make your turn the turn signal will stay on when the wheel is turned back to center, so you have to manually turn them off. I do have another multifunction switch that I will be installing shortly to see if that fixes the problem with wipers and turn signal. I do not know if these could be a problem related with what is going on.

As for my problem with the P0500 code what could still be causing these problems? The last VSS had metal shavings covering the sensor from when the yoke was not tightened down enough. Since then the fluid was flushed and yoke was torqued to the correct spec and there is no longer metal shavings in the fluid.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Your heater, wiper, electrical issue is your GEM module. I bet your windshield is leaking and it is getting wet. Very common issue on the SD. Get the windshield resealed and get a new GEM module.

I figured that could be the GEM module, actually now that I think about it we did have a verry strong storm here last night, bet that sent it over the edge.

Thanks, now on to the P0500 problem.lol

Yes they do, now I need to find a good used one. They are pricey. I found that the GEM can cause even speedo, abs and OD flashing problems. After the hard rain we had I bet its the problem.
