When you guys get this done, do you have the area where the boot clamps left bare, or do you get that area coated too? If I get the whole thing coated, probably could just hit the end with a Emory pad or something to rough it up a bit and let the boot grab better or...? What's everyone doing on that area?

Thanks.

My pipes came with no pc where the boots go. I have all of mine double clamped with dieselsite boots though too.

What the heck are you running that you need to double clamp?

mine have always been powdercoated all the way to the ends

Didn't do anything special to make boots stick? Just ran it as is? Cool, good to know.

I was running a powermax but, Im currently running the stock turbo. I had the lower boot blow off 3 or 4 times so I decided to make sure it would never come off again :D

Probably just old worn out boots... I've maxed my 35psi gauge out a few times and never blown a boot off of my 06... I guess double clamping it is one way to go about it.

Thanks Shone, that makes sense then with the beads on there.

Mine are completely covered. I roughed up the ends a bit but I've never blown a boot even at 70psi

I coated mine with a textured metallic paint. the rough surface definitely helped grab the boots...

The boots will actually stick better to the tubes when you paint them. I would think powder coating would be the same scenario. After all the heat goes thru the pipes it warms up the paint and it seems to bond some what to the boots . After a month mine came off like they had been on there for years.

Old Dodge guys trick is to use hairspray on the ends and then slide on the boots right away. Sets up like glue but is easy to take off boot.

Yeah that's a quite common 6.0 trick too lol. I used to use hairspray on my handlebar grips for my wheelers.

When we built my new cold side pipe, we rolled a bead on both ends so the clamps would hold better. Thinking I might still shoot some hairspray on em' for good measure.

Thats carbon-fiber hydro-coat over candy red powder-coat, topped with clear powder-coat. If you're interested in a set or having yours done PM me.
