Based on the excellent feedback I got on the vac pump question, looks like I need to start looking at steering pumps and boxes too. 16 years is a long time. On the steering box I'm going Redhead or brand new if I can find it. Unless someone has something I havent heard of! Maybe Straight Line out of San Jose, gotta call them.

On the pump, might have to go reman, anyone have any experience to share?

THANKS!

Motorcraft reman?

Went to the local independant auto parts I've dealt with for 30 years today. They can get Motorcraft remans STP48RM is $119 for the PS pump for hydro boost (looking fw to that mod later, meantime no harm in capping the extra return port)

Also can get a reman steering box STG41RM for $239. The question is the quality of Motorcraft remans any better than the others?

I have used Red Head, have on on the 86 but I had to adjust it so they aren't perfect either.

STP 48RM at RockAuto is $107.79+ $40 for the core, $147.79 plus shipping, less 5% if you use the discount code 109376187809431 entered into the "How did you hear about us" box.

Haven't had to try a Motorcraft rebuilt pump or steering box yet. Did buy all of the stuff to do the hydroboost conversion from RockAuto, though.
