power steering pump.

i put a new pump on my 01 7.3 yesterday and the power steering and power breaks work,and it has the proper amount of ps fluid but the pump is making alot of noise is this normal for a new pump?

Have you turned it from stop to stop slowly and then rechecked oil? Many times it takes a while to get any air out.

nope just give it a bit the oil gets aerated when low or replacing parts.

I have also had Ford PS pumps that were just plain noisey from the rebuilder that I eventually had to swap out again.

You have too use ATF in the system NOT powersteering fluid. Also using a good bleeding procedure helps a lot. I bought a reman pump from and ford its been pretty quiet.

I can say that the pumps are hit and miss with these things. Some had issues with low pressure at idle from the first day off they bought it from the dealer. Others never had an issue. The fact is our pumps are weak and not a well put together unit IMO. Way to much variation in performance. When you consider these also work out brake system you would think they would have done a better job. A gear driven unit off the front cover would have worked like some of the older IH motors. Those things seem to never run out of flow or pressure.
