figured i would make a thread for our upcoming build that will be going on over the next few months. the goal is to have the truck completely done by jan 1. , should be feasible only issue will be free time for us.

picked the truck up for a good deal from a customer about 2 weeks ago, truck is a cab & chassis, suspected bent valve or broken lifter.

Plans for the truck are to have a quick street truck that can also tow without issues, obviously being a 550 the truck is a bit overkill for what we will be using it for (hauling a single car trailer & 35.5 double car trailer) it was to good of a deal to pass up

Truck as it sits.
2008
F550 4.88 gears
4x4 new factory ford transfer case
RC
142k miles
body & interior on a scale of 1-10 both would be a 6

Engine-
complete engine rebuild by mpd
upgraded valvesprings & push rods
arp's
everything that can be will be cryotreated that can be
both hp & lp batmo's
ported fuel rails
new injectors
30% over mpd nozzles
s&b intake
deleted
4 inch turbo back exhaust

Electronics-
h&s mini maxx
cts for gauges

Trans-
mpd trans ?
or elite stage 2 trans

Gears-
switching the gears from 4.88 to 4.10's
looked a gearvender kit, ouch , switching the gears out to make the truck more street friendly since a lot of the places were going to pick trucks up are several hundred miles away

Interior-
Just fix the broken pieces
power windows, if i can find everything reasonable ( 50/50 chance)
cloth seats instead of the vinyl

Exterior-
body work fixed and cab repainted ( going back with the factory white)
e-auto grill- black
recon headlights - black
wheels powedercoated - black
black front bumper
black rear bumper
ptm front fenders to the rest of the truck (white) - to help flow with 2012 bed
smoked cab lights
smoked fender lights
2012 dually bed ( need to check body lines to make sure it will look right, although not a fan the fenders, i want the truck to look as new as possible)
5 % tint on side & rear windows, w/ 5 % strip on top and bottom of windshield

truck should be a nice truck when it is done, basically a total redo of the entire truck, since i bought the truck right i dont mind putting the $ into it since you could never go by a truck with everything already done for what I will have in this one.

btw the name tea cup came from the truck being short & stout,:pointlaugh:

were new to the 6.4 stuff so any input is appereciated. i will update with pics as progress goes, i was just happy we had time to go pick it up late one night and get it back to the shop LOL.

some pics of when we orignally saw the truck

I would pass on the batmos and do a 71mm lp if your stepping up in nozzle size. Tow powers would be even better. I would say stay stock fuel unless you go bigger than tow powers. Get all the airflow taken care of before more fuel. Ported intake manifold would be a great idea too.

stock fuel an a 71 would be ideal. or even stock fuel with tow powers. it'll
fuel hard enough the way it is to make a good tow rig

Well this is still going ti be a truck that sees quit a bit of towing so it doesn't need to be a 700 hp truck. As far as motor goes even stock it would probably out pull my f450 7.3 lol. The tow powers I can't justify spending 3k for the set up when batmo or even replacing a 71 with one of the turbos is still half of the cost.

Why do you guys suggest the 71 over doing batmo from what I've read it seems the batmo are a pretty good upgrade.or am I not researching something right?

From the actual graphs that Aaron posted the elite 71 has a better curve vs the batmos and it pulls a little farther as well IIRC. For the $$ to install and balance batmos on factory chargers your not much way from the 1300 for a 71mm elite LP setup. IMHO, it might be worth the extra $$ and just get the LP turbo from the High power setup/ I believe its referred to the Tow-X set up=factory HP and the 76mm LP. Jeff has posted he is going to up grade to the 76mm as Mike-Bigpwr mentioned having high powers was the best DD and awesome tow set up. The factory HP being a VGT should be fine and using the 76 would be a sweet setup in theory. Extra HP, no smoke, low egts and almost 700 on factory fuel.
As far as the ported rails, Jeff and several others have pulled them off their trucks.

No recons seem to be the common theme. With so much hatred on them will probably go with smoked lol. And the ported rails were on the list because the cost is minimal. And I would be fine with the 71 just a difference of 1500 going from that and a stock hp to a tow power set up.

Also so a 71 lp and stock nozzles. Are the 30% not needed. And at what point does the hpfp give out?

stock hpfp will not support 30% nozzles.

and on another note, I vote for a 08-10 dually bed instead

I agree on skipping the nozzles and a 71. With 140k on those turbos I would feel much better seeing you going with something new with a warranty over putting wheels in the stockers.

Ok. Like I said before trying to learn as I go just don't want to make a costly mistake. Thanks for all the help so far.

And I agree on the bed but I want the truck to look new as possible

If I was building a tow pig I'd do EVER (think about how air flows through the motor, there is an upgrade for ever part) air flow mod including a 71 before I ever invested in Fuel. Why do nozzles? Isn't 600hp at 650 egts good enough??

Stock fuel is good to 650hp or a little more, so leaving out the nozzles and batmos would give you the funds for the 71mm lp. Would probably be cheaper in the end with the 71mm.

Lovin what elite trans did you go with and how do you like it?

650 is more then plenty, almost double of the 7.3 we tow with now (that does well for the record lol)
