puff on startup

Truck has slight puff of whiteish smoke on initial startup why is this

I've never heard of glowplugs doing that. Do you have stock injector nozzles?

Or it's just your glow plug relay, glow plugs hardly go bad unlike spark plugs. Check your plug connections to the glow plug harness. My sister had a wire melted on hers and it would do the same thing.

I've had the relay go bad and cause it. Also had a buddies truck that 7 of his glow plugs were bad and it would just blow white smoke wouldn't turn over.
