Right now I have a donor truck that has power windows and power locks in it. I'd like to take the guts out of the door and put it in my non power doors on Capone. Has anybody done this before? I need to know exactly what all i will need to remove/take from the door to swap it over to mine. Any help or thoughts would be awesome, I'm in a *bit* of a time crunch to get it done.

We usually swap the entire door. I swapped the guts out once in a chevy, and to be honest swapping doors is way easier

Probably a good idea.

Well you have that in the other door don't you

Yes. I'm not sure how the lock actuator interacts mechanically with the handle, the linkage, or the latch. Is it all the same between models just minus the actuator? My point is, i don't want to do a bunch of work, IF i don't have to.

If it's being painted anyway wouldn't it be easier to just swap the doors and get the wiring harness?

Handles are the same. Just need actuator and linkage.

The window stuff will need to be all removed.

The door/under dash harness will need to be removed. Door panels of course. And then its all plug and play. Add some fuses and relays.

I constantly debate this swap on my XL... Basically the only thing to do is the locks/windows and I would have an xlt/lariat reg cab lol.

I was gonna just swap doors myself. But not having to paint and worry about fitment etc would be nice.

If ya got time snap a few pics along the way.

This on 08 I assume? All the doors are the same power and manual. The latches, strikers, etc..The power actuator can just be added to a manual latch. It slides in place with one latch to control the power locks. Changing the guts over on SD trucks is easier then changing doors. Its all bolt in and easily accessible. Also, since 07 when they made the door harness's unplug at the pillar has made it much easier.

Now as for interior? I dont know if you need to change a BCM or not. I would say swap guts and door harness, plug it up and see what you got.

Can you elaborate on the under dash harness? Where does it lead to?

Haven't put eyes on it yet, trying to visualize it.

I can't say for sure if you have to have it. But to be on the safe side I would pull it from the donor. It is where the door harnesses are connected to the cab. They go up under neath into the main harness for the under dash. Basically the main under dash harness.

If you have ever pulled a dash out of one of these trucks you'll know what I mean. It's easy to take the dash out. I mean like 20min. Comes out all in one piece steering wheel and all.

Here's an 08 dash less. If you've ever had to change a heater core this is where you ended up at.

But on edit I would just try plugging in the door harnesses to the cab harness you already have in there. The base cab harness should be the same. Unless you won't have access to the donor truck at a later date. Then I would pull it in case you need it. But it is the main harness in the cab. Big PITA.
