Ran Into A Problem

Pulled my turbo yesterday for my regular 6 month cleaning and found what im thinking is a bad turbo seal. Oil was coming out of the back under the exhaust wheel. Pretty sure thats not normal. So Ive been looking at some rebuild kits, but what Im wanting to know is, since Im doing this, are there any rebuild kits that might offer a small upgrade?

Personally I'd look into a stage 1 from mtw or barder if you're interested in a little performance gain and cooler egts.

I would spend the extra 8-900 on that before I spent 2-3 rebuilding a stock unit

Putting in a rebuild kit may not work. You need to take turbo apart, take turbine wheel out, and try a new oil ring seal in the bore in the back of center housing. If no gap you are good for rebuild if gap then the new ring won't seal either. It is normal however to have oil seep if the turbo was sitting on the exhuast housing, hope that helps.

It was..It was sitting on the exhaust side the entire time I was cleaning the vanes and ring. When I stood it back up I noticed it..

It was sitting on the down pipe flange? If so do t worry about it

It was. just resting face down on the wheel. So I shouldnt be worried about this then..Just didnt think oil was supposed to surpass the seal
