what are you gonna do when it goes off? Go shoot someone?
Only if I feel threatened.
At least in a state with Castle Doctrine...
What if they put this on the news every nite in places like Houston - 'another would-be Powerstroke thief was gunned down by a law abiding citizen'.
I just bought the interior out of a truck that had been stolen and recovered (totalled). This was a sweeeeeeet truck and obviously the owner's baby, and was taken from his driveway in a dense residential area. I didn't notice how they got in, but they broke the ignition lock cylinder and drove it away. Apparently while ripping the stereo stuff out in an Arby's parking lot, they unhooked something that prevented the engine from starting or they prolly would've eventually stripped it to the carcass.
Last time I was locked out, the locksmith used the 'lil airbag thing on top of door and a rod to activate door locks. I'm not sure I could have gotten the keys out of my pocket to unlock the door any faster - it almost made me sick.
Those of us with significant investments in our trucks, especially 'older' trucks need to have a conversation with our insurance agents about insuring the real value of the truck. What they gave this guy for his truck would not cover his entertainment system - much less what I have in just my engine. Of course his lifted V10 doesn't have near the resale value a PSD would.
As far as theft deterrents go, we have to disable the truck. I'd be alot more willing to take the pain of some broken glass and a missing head unit or even some tools than the devastation of never seeing my truck again. The TPS is a good one, but what about using the brake pedal switch as a cheeep deterrent? Not being able to put it in gear would prevent it from driving away.
