Actually I believe they are a little narrower backing plate to backing plate.
That allows the inner wheels to kick in more than a single rear wheel.
I maybe wrong. Just thoughts from a old mind.

I used the almighty google, it is actually 6.1" wider, sucks. I'm trying to srw my dually but I want to keep my axle and don't feel like milling it

I know a guy that took a dually and took the adapter off etc and the it ended up being 1" wider on each side so 2" this was a 2000 IIRC. I think there was a thread on it over on PSN maybe in the Excurison section I seem to recall also. I think it was also stated to be 1". I'll see if I can dig it up. Another place to check is Pirate4x4 tons of info on axles etc there.
