Alrighty fellas. Im going to be dropping the 5r in about a week and a half. Just have a few more questions before tackling the project. First, my plans...

I can probably get away with putting a new 3-5 solenoid in and be down the road, but i only want to do this one more time. I am planning on putting a PI stallion converter in with a 200 under stall, i am pretty dead set on that part.

I need opinions on whose billet input shaft to run, or are they all pretty much the same. Seems all the specs are pretty close.

Next, whose shift solenoid is everybody running. Im looking for reliability, because i only want to do this one time.

Lastly, im looking for a tranny jack. How much does this beast weigh? Im considering a cheap northern tool or harbor freight one ton jack. Do you think this will be effective enough for my to get under?

Thanks everybody.

PS. Any tips you want to add, feel free. Anything im missing?

Any rebuild kit will work okay for you in all honesty. But most "kits" dont include the machined drums to add more clutches they include so that has to be done in addition. This is why I recommend having someone that knows these transmissions do the work because they take care of this.

As far as direct drive solenoids, If the tuning is right, which I see you have that already, you shouldn't need a modified solenoid. The solenoid makes the direct shift bind under heavier throttle. Its not that noticeable, but I've dealt with it first hand and actually went back to a new stock solenoid versus the EPC or gogo solenoid. I would recommend replacing all the solenoids at this point too, and the trans cooler.

I dont know about you, but I think the cost alone isnt worth buying a boat load of parts and having someone install it.

Ok. My symptoms. After loading my SRL from Unlimited tow about 9 months ago, i was getting a bad flare from third to fourth. Tried reloading, disconnecting batteries and all that jazz. It got worse and worse. Got to the point to where i had to limp it home two fridays ago. Converter would not lock into fourth unless i let off the throttle and let it engage.

So i decided to just build it. Throw a new convertet in, direct solenoid and a new shaft. Is there more to it than that? Input shaft is just 'cause im in there type of a deal.

Whose rebuild kit do you recommend?

Also, i just figured the solenoid was so weak that it just started giving out. I dont want to run a weak converter, especially when i have plans to build a little more in the future. This is why i planned on buying all these parts. If i could afford an already built trans, i would go that route, but i cant afford the extra couple bones.

Yes. I had a code having to do with excessive slipping of torque converter, and a solenoid code. I cannot recall the actual number.

I am out of town for work, so my buddy picked my truck up and took it to his house because he has room for a torn apart ford. He said it threw a new code when he drove it, so hes going to pull it when he gets a chance.

The point I was going to make, where a the suncoast kits dont, or at least mine didnt. I regret not going with Elites kit in the first place.

I was just planning on pulling the converter, slipping the new one on, and changing to a gogo solenoid.
