Well.. I am still batteling transmission issues that now has slack in my rear axle chunk. Mine as well regear and lock. I know im doing the trutrac but my question is for the guys that have regeared with 38's on what your ratio is and would you do it again. I do alot of highway driving and the roads down here are pretty flat. The only thing I tow is my 198 Champion bass boat. with the 373's and 38's when I pull the boat I seem to down shift alot. thinking 4.10's or 4.30's would suit me better but all input would be appreciated..

Nice sig.... LOL its still here

Do you have traction bars?
I had 4:30s and 37s and I really didnt like it. Cruising at about 75-80mph my rpms were 2400ish if I remember correctly.
I wouldnt do it again, thats for sure.
I just dont know if regearing is the answer. Have you tried to play with tuning tire changes etc?

As far as the slack, it may very well be the driveshaft.

Erik has 37s and 4:30s as well and last I spoke with him, he wasnt sure if he liked it or not either. Maybe he will chime in.

I have 4.56 's on 38's but I tow heavy a lot . Some of the higher hp tunes will make up for the stock gearing if you light tow and highway a lot .

How heavy is the boat and are you tuned? If so what tune?

My truck loved hot tunes, 37s and 3.73 clear up to 10k weight

I had no issues with my 37s and 3.73s - I didn't tow with the truck but it drove great, the only thing I did was use the tire size recalibration deal on my Livewire with the canned tunes.

Whenever I get a clunck from the rear of the truck I check the u-joints and carrier bearing (if applicable) and make sure all is good and the bolts are tight. You might start there if you haven't already.

Spatel. Just worried about the economy right now or I would be taking it off your hands. I do have traction bars. Also have a custom one piece drive shaft and it's not the ujoints. I remember in a previous post u saying you didn't like the 4.30s. I'm pretty sure 4.10s will suit me better.

For the other guys. Thanks for your input as well. I run the 310 LL spartan now. Once this dang transmission problem is fixed Ill have gearheads tunes to try.
