Reliable 600-650hp build?

My 6.4 is bone stock right now, and I'm looking to make it a hot street truck, nothing too crazy. The HP numbers aren't really important to me as much as it's ability to accelerate, but I know 600-650 would make for a very fun DD.

What I'm thinking is this:

H&S with KEM tunes
DPF/DOC delete pipe (Have to be able to put it back in every 2 years for E-check?)
S&B intake
Elite Tow Power Atmo turbo
Elite EGR delete/wastegate kit
No Limit IC pipes
Headstuds

Any recommendations for additional parts to make it more reliable? That is my main concern for this truck. Also, how well will the trans hold up, the truck is a late Job 2 (11/08).

Thoughts and ideas are welcome, I'm used to working on 7.3's and 6.0's, 6.4's are still fresh to me.

Thanks,
Dave

I think at least a low pressure fuel system would be a good addition.

I think close to the power you're asking for is achievable with your parts list. Id do an Afe intake instead because it might flow better. Run the trans, If you have problems then build it or at the least a converter to start. If you can hold rail pressure on stock fuel I'd say don't worry about that either at first. Also do a full exhaust, not just a delete pipe. Do a downpipe and full 4 or 5 inch. There are plenty of guys making tons of power on stock intake manifolds so I wouldn't worry about that until after your original parts list was installed and you weren't quite where you wanted to be and wanted to squeeze a few extra HP out of it.

I'd say try your list plus a full exhaust and see what it gets you for HP. You can always do fuel after but I think stock fuel will get you where you want.

Like stated above by others, I would do a 4'' down pipe forsure. I would also add the Airdog and upgrade, and a ported intake while you have the heads ready for studs. This is basically the setup I have minus the studs and ported intake. I will do the ported intake when I do studs forsure though. Have fun!!!

Thanks for the input guys, I'll add a low pressure fuel system to the list!

The reason I'm going with a delete pipe instead of a full exhaust is I may need to bolt the DPF and Cat back in every 2 years for Emissions check. I was planning on doing a 4" downpipe for sure though.

Looking at some of the stuff on Elite's site, it looks like I may as well do ported fuel rails while I'm there if I do a ported intake, especially for the price! Anyone running those, what do they do for you on a stock injector/stock pump truck?

Ported rails help as they hold more volume and can help maintain rail pressure, I would do it for the cost. I think it is easier to swap the whole exhaust than just the dpf/doc. I done the dpf/doc delete at first for the same reason, then added a full exhaust

Id go with like madman is saying..... Air dogbut leave the fuel bowl... And see if you can hold pressure with it still on the truck, ported rails won't do anything for you so don't worry about them.... A ported intake might help even out flow and might help prevent a cracked piston

Why would anyone not do ported rails? Its $100 and they do help, maybe not now if he isnt loosing RP, but over time as his HPFP looses life (as all mechanical parts do), it will carry his RP longer due to the volume

My truck made 641 HP this past weekend with the following mods:

Spartan 310 tune
AFE Stage II Pro 5R
4" Powerstroker67 ceramic coated downpipe
5" Flo-Pro exhaust
Elite stage 1 ported fuel rails
Elite head studs
Elite EGR cooler delete
Elite 71mm atmosphere
No Limit Fabrications intake elbow/CAC pipe
SunCoast built transmission
Air Dog II DF-165 (without Elite's upgrade)

^^ there ya go, and what's nice is a lot is preventative stuff. It's so nice making that power with a few bolt ons. If you want to experiment and possibly save some $$ at first I'd try it with a stock lpfp. If rail pressure holds with a stock pump is an aftermarket going to make a difference? Plus itd be interesting to see what that turbo makes on stock fuel. You might be able to get away with a stock tranny or converter at first depending on how you drive it. I have a rcd converter that I'm getting ready to install this or next week with some trac bars. But am going to try and keep the tranny mostly stock until the end of my build. Also like in Jeffs situation, an intake manifold might bump him over 650

NICE NUMBERS.....

I am doing the same build but I have exhaust manifolds, airdog upgrade and a wastegate. I will eventually do TOWPOWERS and ported intake manifold BUT tune it down a little bit. Maybe run the 275 or 250hp tune and keep it smoke free and reliable. Should be good for about the same hp BUT I can turn it up if needed.

These guys have you on the right track!!!! :D:D:D

A little more HP than you wanted but still a nice build.....http://powerstrokearmy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13896

Thanks Jeff, I had been meaning to ask what your build was after reading your review of the 71mm atmosphere charger, sounds like your truck is right where I want mine to be!

I'd also look at exhaust manifolds and the ported intake, not necessarily for HP but for cooler temps.

Where do you purchase the 4inch downpipe & can it be installed w/ the cab on?

If you're doing towpowers and not HPFP and nozzles you'll have clean, smoke free power on just about any tune. I don't see why you'd run a lower tune for that.
