well id like to know what the safest tuner is for a non studded 04 f250. i dont want to risk blowing head gaskets or have other problems. i currently have stock exhaust and stock every thing. can some one help and give me some info on why i should or shouldnt get one. i just want better mpgs, and maybe make my truck a little faster but i dont want to risk engine damage

SCT of course, with custom tunes from your choice of vendor. Tell them your situation and they'll set you straight.

The 5r trannies are decent for what they are..I dont think you'll have a problem with the tranny with some good tunes, as long as you don't go around Rollin the coal everywhere.

Then again it could blow up the first time you go for a ride...there's no "guarantee" in this sport

Call/email/pm one of the vendors on here that tune - Innovative, Gearhead, TSD, ect... They'll set you up with what you need.

If your worried then leave it stock. There is no guarantee reguardless of the tuner since even stock trucks break. More conservative tunes and/ or conservative driving go along ways. I have a egr delete and studs in my truck and run a race tune. Btw they are in the tool box waiting for a reason to go into it.

Also, I would recommend gauges and an exhaust before putting any tune in. All trucks are different, some can handle a race tune forever without puking, and some puke on a tow tune. You never know till you try, but most find out the hard way.

I would recommend Eric@ innovative Matt@ gearheads Chris@ TSD or Vivian@ quicktricks. Those are the 4 names pretty much everyone on here runs.

I bought my truck with 80k on the clock bone cold stock. Used rcd tunes for 9k miles and have about 1k on gearheads.. No problems. All I have done is exhaust and egr delete. Like they stated there is no guarantee you won't blow something but as long as you aren't driving around like a jackass you should be fine. These vendors know what they are doing, for most of them this is life for them at and away from work...

If you don't have the cash for studs, I would leave it stock until you do, if you're driving habits aren't on the grandma status. Lots of tuners can compensate for this and still write decent files, but there is NO guarantee. I had the non studded files and still managed to blow the gaskets within 10k miles..that being sad, my truck gets abused frequently.

Definitely do an EGR delete. Less headaches to worry about.
