Building an engine for a friend, or I should say I am just starting reassembly of the engine. It's been torn down to the bones, cleaned, tanked, ect... Anyhow while finishing up some cleanup the various plugs in the block caught my eye, and their orange sealant on them kinda flaking away from all the cleaning.
There are plugs behind the timing cover and others that would be impossible to seal/reseal once the engine is assembled. So I am wondering what would be the right sealant to use on these?
If they were accessible from the outside I'd not really be so concerned, but these need to be sealed right and done.
I was considering using some of the Navistar RTV that came with the rear main seal kit, but part of me says there has to be a spec for this application or what 7.3L builders/re-builders use/recommend.
