I didn't. Mine are a year old and still look great. Adhesion promoter and white krylon (I think)

Oven cleaner on the areas your painting will take the chrome off and then self etching primer.

I guess I never understood the obsession with removing the chrome or using promoters/primers to really get the paint to adhere to the reflectors. The reflectors are sealed inside the headlamp, not exposed to the elements what so ever. I have to be missing something obvious as I see this topic time and time again, the few sets I've done have had no issues with paint falling off.

Self etching is designed for metal. It's an acid base. Promoters are for plastics.

What's the chrome on the inside of the lights? Plastic or chrome? It seems like a thin layer of plastichrome. Lol

The chrome on the inside is just a plastic coating, heavy duty oven cleaner will take it right off. Not sure what the 11+ lights are like under the coating but the 08-10 lights are black under the chrome so no need to paint if you are blacking them out.

If you an take it off with oven cleaner or any other solvent ....it's a paint or chemically a plastic.

I stripped them completely down and they are white under the chrome. These are 11+ lights
