I'm lookin at a 95 f250 it had high miles 250000. The problem is the owner says it has to be manually shifted or it won't shift until it winds way out. Is this a sensor or is the transmission about toast. They said the od light is flashin could I scan it with a sct live wire to pull the codes.

You will need to scan it to see what code is set. It could be something very minor, or it could be a new trans. I'm betting on a vehicle speed sensor. They are around $20. I don't know if the sct can scan it or not.

Ok I drove the truck today and it about breaks your neck wen it shifts and the speedo and odometer neither one work. He said he was doin a burnout wen theis all happened. I'm gonna scan it tomorrow but I'm thinkin the speed sensor or the sensor on the back of gauge cluster. Any input woils me helpful.

The VSS on the axle supplies the signal to the speedometer and shift strategy. Also check the wiring to the VSS for damage, who knows what happened during the burnout, could have thrown something. Just get the sensor at the dealer.

Mark happens to be the site's former ford trans engineer expert.
