Should I install an upgraded solenoid in a new built trans.

I'm going to do a pan drop and drain on the trans. It's a built from Warren. He doesn't use the upgraded solenoids, so while I have the pan off, should throw one in? I don't know if its going to shift harder afterwards? Shifts smooth now... The harshness would hurt anything, would it?

Okay, I thought the added pressure would only help. It's bumped 20% in the GH tune. I checked it a day or so ago

I believe most trans builders Anthony do not install the modified solenoids due to the different clutch plates and modified pumps. I don't see the need either. Warren trans shift pretty darn firm and quick, mine does and its a comp trans. Your full billet should scream when it shifts- at least the one I felt shifted very harsh until tunes were adjusted

Edit: u have gh tunes, he has smooth shifting on these trans

Yes, harsh shifts CAN break the transmission. Harsh is not always better.

The most common modified solenoid is for the direct clutch. The direct applies as the intermediate clutch releases. Both of these happen to make the 3-5 shift (This trans doesn't used the gear marked 4, it's normal shift schedule is 1-2-3-5-6.)

If the direct applies before the intermediate has time to release you have what's called a tie up. It's the mother of all harsh shifts. A tie up means all parts of the transmission are held from rotating. The output shaft, which is splined to the drive shaft, which is connected to the axles and tires, come to a stop RIGHT NOW. This will lock the rear wheels when you make a 3-5 shift. The trans might be able to live through one of these if you are not at full throttle when it happens. If you are at full throttle you'll have a transmission full of busted hardware.
