Slight clunk when I stop?

Every time I come to a complete stop there is a slight clunking noise. Sounds and feels like it's come from under the drivers side floor. Checked everything, all tight. Everything visually looks fine. Even went around tapping parts to see if they might be loose and I could recreate the noise, nothing. Shocks and springs were replaced last year when I bought the truck. Maybe a bad bushing that I just can't see? Driving me nuts :fustrate:

Gonna be doing that either tonight or tomorrow. Sure would be nice if I got lucky and it was the first thing I check. If I don't find it soon I just might strap myself to the frame underneath and have my brother drive it through the yard LOL I'm thinking it might be shackle or stabilizer bushings or end links as ithe noise is coming from that general area.

The slip yoke in the driveshaft often causes this. Lubing the splines is the fix. Ford dealers have a special grease just for this. Regular grease will only last a couple weeks in this application.

Thanks I'll give this a shot as well, I did the rear one but for some reason not the front

I also did take the sway bar off to check the bushings and all the end link bushings are shot. Already bought the new bushings, just have to press old ones out tomorrow.

I went ahead and ordered all the ball joints, seals, and axle shaft u-joints last night. Hopefully all will be here by the weekend.

Well I finally had a chance to start tearing into the front end today after work. I got most of it all torn apart, just have to get the knuckles off. Didn't have much time since we're leaving early in the morning to Norwalk Raceway Park. Gonna finish it up on Sunday. And at least the bearings seem to be in good shape.

iv'e seen it time and time again on our trucks that are out off road all the time where the sway bar link bolts will back themselves off and make a clunking noise. sounds exactly like something is hitting the bottom of the floorboard. not saying that is your problem, but certainly could be. could also be sway bar bushings

Yeah I did the sway bar and end link bushings last week with energy suspension ones, they were all shot:doh:

Well my clunk is gone now that the ball joints are done. Rides so much better now, steering is tighter, and also not diving to one side any more when i brake. There is however a slight knocking sound still when I go over larger bumps. Shock mounts are tight, still gotta check the track bar as well. Also forgot to grease the front drive shaft yoke again  :slap: The axle u joints could've went a while longer but at least this way they are new as well. The hubs were still good as well. At least now I feel safer driving it with the new ball joints.

as for your new sound dont rule out the shocks on my truck i don't know what caused it but my lower shock mount where the bolt goes through the shock the little steel sleeve in the shock bolt hole had streched out and was letting the shock move around on the bolt and was making a simmilar sound

The slight knock was there with the bad ball joints just wasn't sure if it was coming from them as well. Yeah I'm not ruling them out, I will definitely check that out. Such a pain in the a$$ when everything feels tight and you can't recreate the noise when the truck is sitting still LOL Thanks!

Not sure what year your truck is, but I also have a clunking noise up driver floor. Only happens when stopping while towing something. Happens right when I hit the brakes. Sounds like something's shifting but it's all tight.

FYI mines a 08 2fidy 4wd

Yeah that's exactly what mine was doing, even without towing though. Mine was pretty obvious once I got the front of the ground.

I did find one thing that's making a knocking noise, just haven't fixed it yet. The freaking driver's side splash guard, or plastic inner fender, whatever you wanna call it, is rubbing. I found this out by grabbing the front bumper and rocking the truck side to side LOL Pushing up on it by hand doesn't take much to make it make some noise. I think the front body mount is shot.
