I bought a 6.4l 08 regular cab dually trucks in good shape other than it sounds like a rod could be knocking. I have heard it could be a rocker arm broke. Truck starts and runs but makes alot of racket. Where would you all start?

Does it have a miss? Might pull the valve covers and see if a rocker is broken.

No codes but the batteries have been unhooked for a month. I have not ran it any yet. Didn't think the guy would take my offer because he was asking the moon for it so I have to go home and get the trailer and truck to get it home. Heard it run via cell phone video so it was hard to tell much other than it will run. It was run for 15 min after it started making noise.

I thought so. Tell my wife she is on me about it but I had to take the deal.

I'm going to drain the oil and screen it to see if there's any metal in it. And check the filter. If not I would think its a rocker arm.

Cab is off no metal in the oil so I think the bottom end is good

yeah not matter what you are going to make your money back on that deal, the engine parts are easily worth what you paid.


Could be a piston issue as well, bottom end is most likely good

Yeah I agree. Already sold the hood fenders and mirrors and bumper to a member on here got a serious buyer for the title and cab.

Yeah that's what I have decided with a baby on the way I don't have time for a build right now and I have some customer trucks that are going to be keeping me busy for a while. And I decided I want a 40' goose neck after completely overloading the trailer I have with this truck blew two tires out on the way back and when I disconnected the trailer from the truck the jack broke off the frame.
