My money situation is tight at the moment, otherwise I'd be installing a 38r or the new kc38r into my obs. I have a good condition stock 99-03 truck turbo, and i have my obs turbo that needs a rebuild. My research shows me both the van turbo's and the obs turbos have a larger turbine exducer wheel, due to the 1.15 housing. I would like to keep the 1.15 housing from my obs. Is there anyway i can Frankenstein the 2 turbo's together to have the 1.15 exhaust housing and larger exducer, the 1.0 sd compressor side? The obs compressor wheel is also chewed up, hence why im putting a motor in my truck now. I know i can slap the 1.15 housing on my sd turbo, but it will be to large for the sd exducer, and wont be optimal.

Exducer/shaft is different.
At least that's the info I found because I was going to try the same thing.
I have the 1.0 exhaust housing. Was running a sd wheel before I did the 66/88 compressor wheel with 360 bearing.

I went and read some old threads, and believe van/obs exducer are the same size, which is larger than sd. I have seen conflicting info about shaft size though. Seen quite a few say shaft size is the same for all tp38 turbo's, as well as chra. I think im just gonna pull them both apart and see for myself. My truck has 4:10's, and already revs super high on the highway, most speed limits here are 70-75, i want to keep backpressure a bit lower if possible, and i am using a van 3" spider/y pipe to go non intercooled with 3" plenums, so again, 1.15 is in my favor.

Try it.
When I had looked it up, the van and obs shaft were different part numbers. And as you know, you can't swap the exducer anyways.

I put the OBS turbo exhaust side on a SD turbo. Never ran it though. If you could find a SD van turbine housing, that would help.

Exactly, you can't just change exducers, so the shaft size question comes up.

Magnum PD: I have looked online in my area, there are NO 7.3 vans that i can find. I originally had planned to install a newer van turbo until i could upgrade to a bb unit. So now i am trying to make this work. I know the exhaust housing will physically bolt up just fine, but the exducer is physically bigger on the factory 1.15 exhaust housings, meaning the sd exducer would be a loose fit on said housing, which would loose efficiency/velocity. Thats at least how i understand it.

I know the comp housing is bigger compared to the obs/e99. I have everything to do the l99 swap, pedestal, 3" plenums, bellowed up pipes, and 99.5-03 turbo. This is going on a sd motor i am installing in my obs, because i have at least one cracked piston. I am almost positive the obs collector will bolt right to the sd bellowed up pipes, so i dont see what wont work. I know i am going to need to make a little clearance with the underside of the cowl, and firewall, but thats no biggie. If for some reason the turbo wont work, i.e. the obs collector wont fit on the sd up pipes or it ends up sitting higher than a stock sd setup, i will just run the stock sd turbo
