hey guys, im a little stuck on this.

my speedo doesnt work.
it started a few years ago: sometimes in the morning the speedo wouldnt work, id give the top of the dash a little smack and it would come to life and be fine for a couple days or even a week or so. it was like this until about a month ago so i just lived with it.

now, since I had the dash out again to dye it black and change the cluster lighting, it wont work at all along with my odometer (every other part of the cluster works fine)

so far i have:

-pulled out VSS and cleaned it with no change(it had a few metal shavings but nothing dramatic)
-replaced the speedo motor inside the cluster with a known good one from a spare gas truck cluster, with no change
-replaced the small circuit board inside the cluster that has cables running to speedo and odo with no change
-swaped cluster from my buddys truck, speedo did not work in my truck
-hooked up the old snap-on brick, read VSS signal while driving and scan tool shows correct speed, although it did have a VSS code stored.

can any one tell me what voltage range i should have at the VSS+ wire at the cluster plug while stopped and while driving ?

thoughts? GEM?

Pop your hood and look for a ground wire right around the back side of the drivers side head light. If its loose, your speedo won't work. I chased this very problem forever with mine.

I checked that ground. It was clean and tight, but I pulled it off anyway cleaned it and reattached. No change

Thoughts?

Anyone know what the VSS+ signal at the cluster should be?

I have it written down some where but Thursday morning I pulled it apart again and checked every segment of wire from the abs module to the cluster and every wire checked good. No corrosion anywhere . So I put it back together and now it works again

Possibly. That was actuallyy first thought due to the whole hitting the dash to make it work
But I had checked and spread, for better contact, all of the pins on all three connectors with no change
