Getting ready to buy another work truck and have opted to not get a dually. Truck will be towing gooseneck w/ 15k on it. Reason we are not getting is a dually is because with the current trailers we have a dually puts us over 26k therefore forcing us to all get cdl's and dot inspection etc down where we are located.

Trying to figure out what most people are using that have srw trucks and do a good amount of towing. This will be either a 250 or 350 with some added springs if necessary and also air bags as well.

Truck will be 4wd , deleted and tuned as soon as we get it. Most likely using a Spartan.

F350 ec/lb with 3.73....I dont even worry about airbags, once on the overload it sits level and tows smooth.

I will say if you arnt on the overloads these trucks seem to have a bounce or buck to them from my experience.

If you were closer i would sell you my 08 f-250 cclb srw 4x4 6.4 with firestone helper bags on the rear. It already has a hide a ball in the bed and a regular hitch. And has been deleted.

My old CCSB had 3.73's but was on 37's. I towed heavy for a short while when it was stock height and did very well. I had Firestone bolt on helper bags which worked great!

I have 3.73's in my truck, tows great! If you're looking at a new truck, the lowest gear you can get is 3.55 in SRW. If used, 09 was the last year for 3.73's

I tow now heavy with my 6.7 and it has 3.55s but my 6.0 I had 3.73s and was happy with them in my 6.0. But I really like how my 6.7 tows with the 3.55s now

I towed a 15k lb mini excavator two days ago with a race file from Eric that never broke 800* on the EGTs. Granted this is the coolest egt running tune I have ever ran but Im on 3.55s with 35s

Whats funny is the street tune towing 18000# over 7% grades runs cooler than the tow tune on the EGT's. The only reason I dont run very much over the grades is the boost scares me, 50+ because of no downshift.
Dont mind my derail. I have 4.88's with approx. 34" tires. It is a monster.

ok so 3.73 seem to do well . it will be an 08 or 09. something with 4x4 and power windows under 100k all im after because it will get be strictly a work truck and they seem to be going pretty cheap now.

If you tow at speeds of 70+ you will want 3.55 if you tow at 55-65 you will want 3.73

We have quit a problem keeping tires on the trailers now so it would be 70mph and under.

Get tires like I have. I've had them for awhile now and it's been to Kentucky, PA, DE, VA, etc... all at or over 70mph most of the time. Haven't had an issue since.

PS I think someone told you about the 05+ dually + a 14k trailer GVCW issue awhile ago. :poke:

imo a 6,4 it pulls circles around the 6.0's so im ok with the headache it has caused switched up tires and the issues dont seem as bad as they use to as far as the trailer goes. but that one trailer runs almost everyday a at least 200 +- miles

I was just poking fun at the dually situation. I like the 6.4 also. I got a cheap 6.0L dually so I used what I got.
