Hey guys. Does anyone have a decent How-To on rebuilding the stock unit?

There is a simple single page on Diesel Power's site, but nothing too in-depth. I have the rebuild kit I bought a year or more ago from RiffRaff with all new o-rings and bolts and it'll be a while before I can afford an Irate T4i system, so I'll just keep it simple and cheap for now.

Should probably do an EBPV delete and fix an up-pipe while I'm in there . . .

It's easier then you think. The thrust bearing has to go on the right way but everything else is straight forward. Iirc it's the housing, compressor wheel, then backing plate 2 bushings and 2 snap rings. Make sure and index with a punch between comp housing center chunk and exhaust then epbv. It makes it that much easier.

Thanks guys. Looks pretty easy.

What's the break in period of the bearings? I have a 10hr each way trip coming up for the next weekend . . . one of the site says 50 miles under 2k RPM, sound right?

be careful when taking off the turbine housine, if it doesn't come off straight, there is a possibility of bending the shaft. wouldn't hurt to have the assembly balanced before you reassemble. just a thought

Thanks for the heads up on the turbine housing.

Not too worried about balancing, honestly I'll probably have the stock turbo for another couple months, max.

If you have not had the up pipes and turbo off I would soak them in pb blaster a day or so before you work on it. And even cycle it hot a couple times. I think a good 1200* heat up and another douching with pb will make life easier.

I would also take and break the bolts free on the exhaust side before removing pedestal. it was a pita trying to do out of the truck

Thanks again for the help guys. Tore into it last night after work, had the turbo out in about 90 min, rebuilt in 90min put everything back together this morning in about an hour. It was a lot less complicated than I thought.

The one up-pipe leak wasn't very bad, and the bolt was a bit loose. So I snugged everything up for now, it should be fine until I do IH-bellowed, or T4i mount upgrading in a couple months.
