Tbc issue

So I bought my truck a while ago and the trailer break control didn't work and the dash said TBC fault. So I bought a new tbc and installed it and the fault on the dash went away until I touched the break. Now if I leave it plugged in everytime I hit the break it rings and throws the fault. Let off the break fault is gone. Any suggestions on what to check?

Is the plug at the hitch corroded at all?

I haven't really looked at it much but i don't plug anything into except on the rare occasion I trailer my boat and still had the same issue but the trailer lights did work???

I looked at the trailer connection and there is some corrosion but nothing major. Like I said I don't use it so do you think that still might take a play in this? Thanks for the help
