Well today I was driving my truck and it wouldn't go past the N on the temp gauge. I blocked the grille and still nothing. When I come up to a light it drops below the N. But the odd thing is that I have plenty if heat inside the cab.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jake

I would probably just put a thermostat in it and go from there esp if it is old.

I would assume that it's the original one in it. Could it possibly be that the coolant is low and the temp gauge isn't reading correctly? Idk where it reads the temp from though

U would get no heat if coolant was low.

I changed the water pump and tstat and I ride at the r all day long. Summer, winter plugged in and double cardboard she sure runs better hot.

The temp sender is in the water pump. All of these trucks read differently the gauge, the sensor is a single wire variable resistor to ground, so when you change the water pump the sensor has a fresh connection to ground and the gauge works properly

I would try tightening the sensor a bit and see if that helps before throwing parts at it

I did not see where he had messed with the water pump or anything. I have seen one time where the threaded connection to ground had some resistance that cause the gauge to read low. I have also seen the sensor get to where the gauge read low. I would still put in a good thermostat if the one in there nwe is really low.

Well I went ahead and changed the thermostat but somehow with a quarter inch rachet I managed to snap the rear bolt off for the housing. And good tips to get the old bolt out?

We all know there are a variety of ways to deal with broken bolts like drilling it out, welding a nut on it etc. On that piece I would be highly tempted to just replace the water pump if it had a lot of miles on it unless it looked pretty easy to try and deal with.

i double nutted a c clamp onto my waterneck to keep it together till i could change my water pump. it was on there for about 10k miles before the water pump gave up the guts

could just be the gauge itself crapped out. get a numerical water temp gauge of your brand of choice and put it up on the pillar and call it a day

The sensor is cheap so I think I'm gonna get one anyways but I'll probably hook a gauge up just to see if it is working right or not

The sensors are cheap and easy to replace and I see nothing wrong with trying that. Once you get a real temp gauge you find out how lame factory ones are.
