Can anyone tell me if a SD timing cover can be used to replace an OBS timing cover? It's for a 96. Mine has a antifreeze porosity leak on my OBS and I'm having a difficult time locating an OBS cover. Accessory bracket mounting and oil pump pickup are my two biggest concerns. This is a DD so I really need to have everything ready to go when I pull the engine, can't have it down forever.

Or, does anyone have a known good OBS timing cover they will part with?

Thanks.

'94.5 - E'95 had different oil pick-up location.
Otherwise '96 - '03 will work.
The '99 - '03 have different HPOP res gaskets, I think, so watch that.

Are any of the sensors on the timing cover different from the obs to super duty? I'm in the process of tearing down a obs engine to go in my SD. I'm going to need to use the wiring harness off my SD, just trying to make everything will work ok.

The 94.5 also had a different oil drain back. I think. Other than that as Jim said, only differences are oil pickup and HPO reservoir gasket. If the cover is late 99 and up the inside of the groove on the oil res side of the top will be milled away to make room for the integral filter screen. If it's just a groove then use the non filter gasket. If it has the oil pickup on the opposite side from the OBS, then simply use the correct oil pickup. As long as you have it apart, weld the pickup in the area prone to cracking.

No. Just stuffed a motor from a 96 into a 02 after swapping all the SD parts onto it. The only sensor location that's different is the EBPV sensor, but that is an external mount, on OBS it's up top next to HPO reservoir, and on SD the mount is part of the HPOP gear access cover plate. An easy swap when doing install, and you'll have to swap the exhaust manifold that the EVPV tube connects to anyway, since the passenger side SD manifold is different, so just keep the SD manifold, tube and cover plate mount with the SD.
