My door jamb sticker says the paint code is WB but on the touch up bottles that's "performance white"...which may be the base coat? I dunno...
I found a Toyota Pearl White bottle that's pretty damn close...does anyone know of an exact match I can get?

I've learned that it is really hard to match the white exact there is I believe 7 differnt white platnium mixtures.

Mine is UG ... And I can't imagine any touch up paint working well on a 2 step paint.

:stupid: Its a pain to match I tried having napa mix up a can for me to PTM some other stuff and it didn't work worth of crap. Has to come in 3 separate cans. White base, The metallic, then the clear.

i don't use " touch up paint" i go to the body shop , and get the panels repainted, about once a year for the front bumper.

I think mine is too. I got the paint from dealer. It looks like crap. I like just using the base better in some places.

Whoever had my truck before me, for a whopping 23k mi, couldn't park worth a ****. Both bumpers have chips & scuffs. I used the 2-step paint I got from Ford, using my VIN, & I tried it on some decent size spots & rock chips & they look like crap. I just tell my OCD to shut up because I'll get the bumpers either replaced with aftermarkets or repainted fairly soon.

I wish I could do it that often. But, ...
I'm ballin' on a budget over here. LOL
... I am too lol.

I thought maybe I just got bad paint. I guess it's not that easy dangit. I wonder if Lowes still does paint match if you bring in a piece they can scan. I remember hearing about that a few years ago but, never tried it. I just may have to look into that.

- A vet' that's gone from a 7.3 to a 6.7, tryin to gather info & help out when I can. New to the 6.7 & PSA. Please excuse my potential FNG ways.

I work for Lexus. We have a color similar to white platinum. The T/U has a base coat and a clear/pearl that goes over the b/c. It works well if you take your time. Is fords paint two steps or just one?

its considered a tri stage, base, pearl, clear and that's the best way to apply it.

I leave the rock chips, adds character LOL

I think my body guy said it was actually a 4 step process. Primer or adhesive, base white, pearl and clear....I know one thing flares on the 14' platinum were not cheap....lol

I bet not. There's a small part of me that misses my '03 250 XLT for that reason and a couple others. But. I'd still rather have my '14 250 Platinum; which is good considering the payments lol.

So I guess I'm in the same boat for blue jeans. Got some rock chips on the rocker panel behind the front tire.

Kinda seems like one more step to make things harder for us do it ourselves-ers. I mean, seems like one end formula for each paint code should work easy enough throughout all the codes. But, then again, I've never been a painter. So, there very well might be some things I'm unaware of.

There are lots of variables that can go into getting a good match. We see it plenty of times at the body shop I work at. If the batch of paint the factory used at the time was Dupont, but the paint you're having mixed is PPG, there can be variances in the pigments. We see brand new cars from dealers come in where even the factory match is off, where a bumper might be slightly lighter or darker than the adjoining fender. Some of the tri coat ones can be a complete pain in the a$$ even for a veteran painter to match.
