My truck is on an 8 inch spring lift and I have never launched it in 4 because I know I'll break something. I'm just asking if they help keep the front from hopping or add any rigidity that's worth the money.

Brentos put them on and his truck hopped horrifically. Good shocks and a properly set up suspension can accomplish as much as they could

Maybe his suspension wasnt setup properly when the traction bars were installed. We've had success here with various traction bar setup on much higher hp trucks.

Is your shackle at the front or rear?

Is this your DD?
I believe what you're going to want a a 'cal-trac' style bar, running from the axle forward. It's going to look goofy as all hell, but work better than bars in the rear, with the shackle also being in the rear.
