im stumped now. we did a rebuild about 4-5 months ago. every time we change tunes the tranny has to relearn which i understand. well when you start going while its relearning you cant hardly touch the throttle without it slipping going from 3-5. yes we are gonna put a gogo soleniod in it later but what i dont get is after the rebuild and all new soleniods its still acting up durning relearn. i wouldnt be so concerned about this if we didnt tow with this truck. if we have to switch to a tow tune we cant just do it and be done we have to baby the truck for 50-60 miles before it wants to shift right. should we try a new tranny flash or something? once it relearns it shifts great! but like on my old 6.0 you could switch however many times you wanted but the shifts were just kinda firm at the beginning.

put a new direct solenoid in there and see if it solves the problem. It sounds like its sticking. Try that, or try loading a tune, and then reloading it again before running the truck. Sometimes my truck will do this if im switching tunes daily to test out. reloading it works every time.

ill try the soleniod. already tried the reload. it just weird because once its 50-60 miles down the road or so (in town driving where its constantly shifting) it clears up to a minor shift flare but the second you go to a new tune or reload the tune its back to the same crap for awhile

I was told by Vivian @ QuickTricks that the whole 50-60 miles worth of driving that folks think are needed for the tranny relearn is not really correct (assuming you have a healthy transmission). She says all you need to do (and I have tried this and found it to work for me) is, start from a stop. Accelerate until the tranny shifts (1-2) and stop. Now acclerate for two shifts (1-2-3) and stop. Now accelerate for four shifts (1-2-3-5) and stop. Finally accelerate for four shifts (1-2-3-5-6) and stop. Then repeat that whole sequence again and the tranny has relearned about as good as it is going to. As I mentioned, I have done this and have found it to be MOST beneficial and have not noticed any added benefit of driving 50+ miles as opposed to doing it this way. I would recommend giving it a shot and seeing how it works out for you. Hope this helps.

well its not really the "relearn process" thats doing it. what is driving me nuts is that like on my 6.0 when i change tunes my shifts are a bit firm at first but atleast it grabs every gear and i dont have to stay almost completely out of the throttle and its the same with my buddies truck also. but this truck you literally cant get above 1500 rpms without it popping out of gear from 3-5 and acting all weird. its almost like it needs to be rebuilt again but it prob has 3k on it since the rebuild and it does it only durning what i call the relearn because once you drive it a few miles it starts to clear up to a slight flair

i remember a while ago you had a thread about the transgo pressure relief bleed off installed in your trans. Maybe it was a different truck, but did you ever plug the holes and get rid of that crap?

I am no transmission expert by any means, but in the couple little standard jap trans I rebuilt there were shims for the gears so the teeth would lock together all the way and not be out on the end of the teeth. But then again I may be wrong. I refuse to go past the pan on an auto, so I may just be talkin out of my ass. Just throwin sh!t out there

well its not a suncoast rebuild kit. he used the black high energy clutches and its a friend of mine that rebuilt it and is good at what he does. and yea we pulled that transgo crap out of it along time ago and plugged the holes up. im going to drop the pan this weekend and put my gogo soleniod in from my other truck and see what happens.

well put the soleniod in and it helped shifting on light throttle but its still flaring pretty good in the higher rpm range, but when i pulled the pan it was spotless! had alittle around the magnet but nothing excessive. i would think that if the clutches were gone i would see stuff all in the bottom of the pan like last time but it was squeeky clean so once again im stumped

no i havent. im starting to lean towards an electrical problem though because there was nothing in the pan and its worse at relearn and then gets better. im thinkin about changing out the soleniod body and seeing what that does because all the shifts are weak, they have never been really firm but they shift until 3-5

could the pump possibly be bad?? never really heard about a pump going out but i dont know how they work or even if the pump flows fluid to that part of the tranny

The pump supplies pressure for the complete trans. I would put a gauge on it and see what pressures are before i did anymore guessing especially if you say all the shifts are weak.

theres a 1/8" test port on the driver side on the side of the trans, its very easy to get to. Make sure the gauge is rated for at least 500 psi... i use a refrigerant gauge for this type of thing.
