Fought something similar, the bushing in the tail housing is replaceable. But the bushing can be hard to find. When the truck is on the ground the Driveshaft is supposed to be 1" from bottoming out in the transfercase. When I did my 4", like you I didn't think it made much of a difference, but I did end up getting a longer shaft and was much happier with the over all fit.
