So I really need to change the filters and fluid in my transmission. So I did some reading at it appears that folks are saying I should upgrade to an 08 filter and pan as opposed to whatever filter comes in our truck from the factory because it is apparently a much better filter??

My question is what the general consensus on this? Also I have a maghytech pan so can I use an 08 filter with that pan?? And lastly does this affect anything negatively (i.e. line pressures and fluid flow) or interfere with the oem cartridge filter??

Any insight on this upgrade would be great. I also plan to get the gogo solenoid as well since I will already be in there. Thanks guys.

Its been discussed on here before. The 08 filter filters as good as the toilet paper filter on our trucks . The difference is the 08 filter filters all the oil all the time vs only when the trans is fully warmed up by the toilet paper filter. This was confirmed by Mark who helped design these trannies. As far as I know, the mag pan will not fit the 08 filter. Best bet would be to sell the pan and get an 08 pan. I think I payed $46 for the new pan from ford. Also you do not need to run the toilet paper filter after installing the 08 filter. This was also confirmed by Mark. You can run it if you want but its not needed. The 6.0 filter in the pan does not filter bu just has a screen to trap large debris.

I listen to BTS..never flush..drop the pan change the filters and add fluid every 30k. If you have a pre '08 replace the pan and stupid screen with a real filter and the '08 up pan.

Should cost less than $150

Filter #8C3Z7A098D
Pan #8C3Z7A194B

What about the rest of the fluid in the system? Doesn't need to be flushed? I'm sure BTS knows what they are doing, just curious what the logic is behind it.

Brian says Power flushing does more harm than good, just moves and dislodges debris all over the place which ends up causing problems. He see's many trans toasted from this being done...
So if your starting out with a new trans and doing the 30k oil and filter change Brian says thats all thats needed..good enough for me..

sounds good to me. What about flushes later down the road? Jut do fluid and filter every 30K? Or is there more required later?

Thanks for the info guys. I think I will look into getting the 08 pan and filter and doing it that a way for now vice the flush. Just wanted to get a good opinion on it to see if it was worth it or not and it sounds like it is so I will look to do it.
