I've got an '04 6.0. Nothing fancy, zoodad mod, 3 1/2 turbo down into 4" strait pipe, EGR delete, studs, 175cc injectors w/75% nozzle. Been running the performance canned tune on my SCT with it set for firmer shifts for about 6 months with no issues at all. I decided to get custom tunes from RCD a few weeks ago. Got them a couple weeks ago, put the hot race tune in, started my truck put it in reverse to back out of the drive and it slams into reverse. Back out my driveway put in drive and it clunks pretty loud into gear. I take off down the road at about 1/4 throttle, gears are slamming like its trying turn over my 35" tires every shift. Get on the highway take off and it's the same and it's slamming gears again. I start up a small hill and throw a trans code P1744. Go home, reset code, load street tune, same deal. Slamming gears throwing the same code. Downshifting on every little hill. I reset the code, install the canned performance tune from the sct and its shifting through the gears fine but is still have this downshifting on small hills, and code P1744. Returned to stock, same issues. Towed my 7000lb travel trailer, no issues, but not towing its downshifting and all screwed up. Trans fluid looks new, I've never seen temp over 170 deg even towing the trailer in summer. Not real sure where to start. Josh at RCD is re writing tunes for me, but they are telling me Ive got trans issues, but I never have before. I just don't get it. I'm in no way pointing the blame at RCD with this post, I'm simply asking for advice on where to start troubleshooting. I know when I plug in the tunes it's my choice and my problem. They have been easy to deal with and offered to re write tunes immediately when I told them the issues, even tho they don't think the tunes are the issue. Thanks for any advice!

Running a canned tune with 175s sounds tough on the trans. Pull both battery cables off before doing the new tunes. For some reason I feel like youre sct is still adding "firmer shifts" to the rcd tune (which would already have firm shifts)

So I disconnect the batteries. Hook back up and take off. 1 mile down the the road the trans is slipping and shifting like crap then throws codes. P0766 and P2703. I clear the codes, then take off again. I continue on 15 more miles combination of highway and city driving and the truck seems just fine now. Makes no sense, we'll see after some more driving. When I shift into reverse however there is a long hesitation and then finally I clunks into gear. I think that is a solenoid issue, but don't feel confident that I'm right on that one with all these other things going in as well.

Yea that seems like a solenoid issue. I had the same problem for awhile and put a gogo in. It gave me about 6 months more life but my trans did take a dump. I would put an upgraded solenoid in and baby it around until you can get a built one.

I just don't understand since the trans never gets hot, has never gotten hot, and the fluid looks and smells like new fluid. I'll also admit that I am miles from being knowledgeable on transmissions as well though. I was wondering if I had a torque converter issue or a solenoid issue. Is there a resource I can look up on the net showin the solenoid replacement? I'm pretty mechanical, I mean I keep a GNCC diet bike team running so I feel like is something I could handle.

When my trans took a dump on me the temp was about 165-170. If your going to do the solenoid, drop the pan and its the middle solenoid in the row of three. Theres a little C clip that holds it in, then when you get that one out its just reverse order from there. Hope this helps:ford:
