Transmission Pan change?

Yes there are different pans you can get that provide what your looking for. The extra capacity is debatable as to if it provides any benefit. In my case, it did help me get home when I developed a hole in a cooling line. The drain plug is helpful, you should still drop the pan when changing fluid but the plug makes the job much easier and cleaner. The flat bottom on some pans is also beneficial if you plan on pulling the trans.

You want the 4R100 auto pan but don't know how much capacity you gain, just get the pan for your application 2x4 or 4x4 and the corresponding trans filter.

SD pad has the same capacity...
Just to be clear it takes the same amount of fluid? So I would only be gain a drain plug?

Yep....more fluid just takes longer to heat up and cool down.
Ok I think I am looking at this wrong or being unclear....:morons:
My 96 Hold how many qts as it is?
And the SD pan holds how many in my 96?
Reason why I ask is it is time for me to service the tranny and want to do it up right!

16 quarts for a stock OBS and stock trans cooler.

Every 30k drop the pan, install a new filter replace and fill with 8 qt's. Per BTS so good enough for me.

If you replace your stock pan with a 4R100 pan you'll need 16 quarts. The 4R100 pan doesn't hold any more fluid than the E4OD pan.
Both of these figures assume you are also draining the torque converter by removing the torque converter drain plug.

^^^!well do it now to preserve the trans as it is and keep up on the maintenance of it. I'd also go ahead and install a BTS valve body and an upgraded TC and the trans should last u a long time as long as u change the fluid every 30k

I put a PML trans pan on mine, (heavily finned cast aluminum), and am happy with it....

it does have a drain plug, a cast-in bumper to keep the Filter where it belongs, and it holds about 2 quarts more fluid than the 4x4 pan...
with the same load, same hill, same ambient temp, it dropped the temps about 12 - 14 degrees
it comes with new Allen-Head bolts also....
