So my truck has gone from a hell of a deal to a hell ofa pain in my ares. Truck was maintained pretty well but not to great by the previous owner who happens to be my father in law. Long story short, in the last 6-7 months i have owned it i have been chasing this issue of bellowing white smoke untill it warms up and on every hot start up a haze of white untill i kick the gas pedal. Which showed up after i cleaned out my cat if you know what i mean. So i have changed all the glow plugs and relay, had the turbo rebuilt even though it was perfectly fine, new o rings on all injectors, rebuilt the fuel bowel, replaced o rings on hpop, and bla bla bla bla bla. When i recently did the o rings and gp i pulled the innercooler and had it flushed and pressure tested. Before taking it down i let it sit for almost 2 days over a bucket and got a little over a quart of oil out of it. Oh dang right. Well its been about a week since that and i have been driving it everyday and my white smoke issue is back.

Although its not half a bad as it was before but its back, anyone else think it could be my blow by oil pooling in the intake and turbo when its shut down? At wits ends with this.

Did you check compression? Did you happen to have the injectors flowed when they where out?

Compression is good in all 8 only a 5 psi difference from highest to lowest, he had the stock air box with 2 broken tabs and a plugged k&n.

And no i didn't have em flowed. Couldn't have the truck down for more than 2 days. But i ran a contribution test and a buzz test and everything came back fine and the buzzing was loud and hard for every injector.

..what were the actual compression numbers? K&N + broken tabs on airbox makes me concerned about the compression...not to mention the 'unneeded' turbo rebuild...did you have a new compressor wheel installed also?

also, how many miles are on the engine/injectors...?

Motor has 197k, Lowest was 398 highest was 407. Yah the k&n filter and broken box were not something i noticed when purchasing the truck. And the reasoning for the turbo rebuild was mainly because i pulled it to check it out. Shaft play was fine and the compressor wheel loomed alright but i figured it was out and i got a pretty good deal to have the work done to it. I believe he replaced the bushings, the shaft, compressor wheel and the seals.

well...that's excellent compression...so the issue is most likely going to be worn out injectors.

after @ 200k miles, the injector poppet will wear enough to (mechanically) delay the injection event...

Yeah, in the description of the problem, I thought we were going to see bad compression numbers. But after hearing those numbers, Golfer is right. Pretty much like he always is.

Damn. What's a set of bb code injectors normally run? I was hopin it wasn't something expensive. But why would it only do it when cold and on warm start up for a second?

our stock injectors are $1200 exchange with a 2 year warranty.

the reason why "when cold"...is

these injectors are OIL FIRED....and oil has quite a variation in viscosity when cold vs hot...

and since the poppet valves within the injectors seal this oil...

beat up poppet valves..plus cold/thick oil...equals a pretty crappy running truck.
