Truck dies after cold start.

The past 2 days when I went out to start my truck (01 7.3) it will start ok, then will idle down, down, down and then die. It will start up again and do the same. After a bit, it will be ok and when it's warm it's normal again. It's right below freezing and I have 15w40 in it. When it happened today I was watching the scan gauge and ICP was falling until it stalled. I'm thinking the oil is too thick and maybe the HPOP is having a hard time pumping it. Or maybe the LPOP can't keep up. Either way, once it warms up it runs as normal. Any thoughts? It is low on compression in cyl#7 so it's coming out soon anyhow. Just want to know what's going on. :shrug:

How long has been since the last oil change.

Not long at all. 3-4 tanks of fuel. I could check to be sure. Oil is Rotella 15w40 because the dealer was out of Motorcraft and I needed to get it out of my garage.

Changed the oil June 16. Less than 1000 miles on it. At the same time new injector o-rings, new IPR and did a compression test. #7 110 psi wet or dry.

One weak cylinder isn't going to cause the problem you have. It sounds more like the IPR isn't functioning correctly.

I went out today and hooked up AE to monitor things when it died, but it has warmed up a bit outside and it didn't stall. Had some ICP codes in memory though. 1209, 1211, and 1212. Maybe I will plug it in at work tonight. Last shift I made fun of a Duramax guy and it would be embarrassing if my truck wouldn't stay running. Lol

Not sure. If they are original, the truck has 246,000 kms and probably the same amount of winter idle time, because it was a mining/drilling company truck. Before I got it.
